Decatur, Texas
Decatur is a city located in Wise County, Texas, United States. As of the 2006 census, the city had a total population of 15,478. It is the county seat of Wise County. Decatur is part of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. It is 25 minutes from Denton,Texas and 30 minutes from Fort Worth,Texas. It is 45 minutes from Dallas,Texas. Decatur is one of the fastest growing cities in Texas. Wise County is the fourth fastest growing county in Texas. This town is named after Stephen Decatur, Jr.
The City of Decatur is served by the Decatur Independent School District (DISD). DISD is a large 3A School District just northwest of Fort Worth and bordering Northwest ISD. Decatur ISD is centered in Decatur, Texas, county seat in Wise County. The district has five campuses: Decatur High School, Decatur Middle School, Decatur Intermediate School, Carson Elementary School and Rann Elementary School. In the 2007-2008 school, Decatur ISD's enrollment was approximately 3,000 students.
Decatur also is home to the World's Oldest Junior College, now a museum.
